Mitigation banks are large tracts of land that have designed, permitted, and successfully implemented a mitigation program through state and/or federal agencies. Wetland functions and values are referred to as "credits" and based on the results of the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM), bankers like Alafia River Wetland Mitigation Bank, Inc. are able to provide credits to ensure impacts from 3rd parties' projects result in no net loss of wetlands. You can estimate the number of credits your project needs by looking at the quality of the wetland being impacted. The liability of the wetland's perpetual success is then transferred from the 3rd party to the mitigation banker. Consequently, there is no operational and maintenance requirements for your project to perpetually manage an on-site wetland to meet performance standards.

OUR SOLUTION

Alafia River Wetland Mitigation Bank, Inc. provides both forested and herbaceous wetland mitigation credits. Our bank uses the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) which can estimate the number of off-site mitigation credits needed by looking at wetland quality. Our company's forested and herbaceous wetlands are approved by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to comply with the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) Program and we are currently pending approval by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

HERBACEOUS

The UMAM requires 0.3 mitigation credit per acre impacted for low quality; 0.5 mitigation credit per acre impacted for moderate quality; and 0.7 mitigation credit per acre impacted for high quality. In turn, that ratio for on-site mitigation requires for every one credit of wetland impacted, there needs to be between 5 and 10 mitigation credits on-site to ensure no overall net loss.
